Zero Waste Challenge Day 23: Beauty Routine

I’m getting ready to revamp my beauty routine. As a woman in her mid-30s, I have to start worrying about wrinkles. I never thought this would happen. Nevertheless, here we are, and I want a facecare routine that’s not only good for my skin, but also good for the environment. This is something I’ve looked into before. I know about certain chemicals to avoid in my skincare routine such as:

  • formaldehyde
  • methylene glycol
  • parabens
  • BHA and BHT
  • DEA
  • frangrances
  • petrolatum
  • silicones
  • socium laureth sulfate

But I’ve found that many products that are good for your health or for the environment are also less effective than the ones that aren’t. Is there a happy medium? Can I find a good skincare routine that works well, but is also healthy and good for the environment? I believe so. In fact, there are many recipes for DIY beauty and skincare products. Making your own skincare products can help you avoid packaging and you know exactly what the ingredients are. Kathryn has a great list of recipes from tooth powder to dry shampoo in her blog.

However, if making your own skincare products is not for you, consider buying from one of these eco-friendly brands:

Eco-friendly, healthy skincare routines is something I’m going to have to do a lot more research about. There are so many brands out there, and it’s hard to know for sure what the best one is for me. Stay posted and I’ll revisit this topic in the future.
