We’re getting close to the end of the Zero Waste Challenge and Day 24 focuses on voting. Not just voting at the polls, but voting with your dollars. Remember we are in charge of the supply and demand chain. Everything we put our money towards, is supported by us whether intentionally or not. This is why it’s so important to put our dollars toward good causes and eco-friendly brands. This concept falls back on much of the other advice already given:
If you don’t need it, don’t buy it.
If you do need it, shop local or shop resale (this keeps money in the community).
Healthy living is green living. Skip the processed, junk foods and opt for healthy, plant-based diets.
Shop for eco-friendly cleaning products and especially appliances.
Know where your products come from. Do you shop from ethically-sourced sustainable companies?
Being more aware of our shopping habits can help us determine who we’re supporting financially. In today’s busy working world, it’s not always easy, but if we slow down and take the time to make a plan about where we get our food, products, and other items, we can assure that we’re supporting sustainable companies and increase their demand.
