Living a Greener Life Part 10: R-E-V-O-L-U-T-I-O-N-I-Z-E (let’s get active)

As we near the end of 2022, I’ve been going over my green living goals and reassessing my plans. I want to have my own upcycling business someday and thankfully, my workshop is finally ready to do so. It’s hard to know where to begin, however. Probably the best place to begin is by living the greenest life possible. I started on that journey and then, as usual, life happened and I got busy and let some of my goals go by the wayside. I’m ready to find that old spark again and be a part of the green movement.

I’ve developed 10 steps for living the greenest life possible, and I’ve been working to slowly incorporate them into my life. I believe the best place to start is to REMOVE excesses and strive for a more minimalist lifestyle. Avoiding consumerism has been one of the big changes that has helped me the most. In fact, this is the first year my family has agreed to forgo gifts on Christmas. No more excessive shopping!

REDUCING our spending is just one thing we can cut back. I also want to REDUCE the amount of meat and dairy products I consume. Single-use products and plastic waste is another thing I’d like to REDUCE.

And in the event I do go shopping, I want it to be local and used. Shopping RESALE might not seem like a green-living activity, but it reduces the need more products to be made and shipped. Shopping local also helps the community.

There are a number of items I’d like to REPLACE in my life, particularly single-use items. There are so many items that can be easily REUSED instead of discarded.

Other lifestyle changes include REPAIRING items that are broken instead of throwing them away and opting for new ones, and finding a better way to RECYCLE. Too much ends up in the landfill.

But our lifestyles go beyond what we buy and how we shop. We need to think about how we live. The way we RENOVATE our homes and home goods. When possible we should opt for the greenest choices possible.

The aim is to RESTORE the world to the way it was before consumerism and greed started destroying it. I’m excited to continue this journey and with the last step to REVOLUTIONIZE the way we live and the way we think about the world around us. Here’s to 2022! And new goals in 2023!

See you there!
